Ultrasound is a diagnostic technique that uses ultrasound and is based on the principle of ultrasound wave transmission to obtain precise images of internal organs.
It allows us to acquire information on all abdominal organs by differentiating them according to their solid or liquid density. Thanks to the evolution of technology and the production of the latest generation of equipment, it is possible to perform ultrasound examinations in every specialist field ( internist, obstetrics-gynecology, orthopedics, vascular cardiology) either for examinations required as a first approach to the patient (first level examinations) or as a continuation of a previous investigation that was not conclusive for diagnostic purposes (second level examinations).
In general, ultrasound is a basic examination for any type of pathology. Easy to perform and radiation-free, totally harmless, with no side effects. It can be repeated for checks even at short intervals. It is a useful diagnostic examination for the evaluation of all abdominal and superficial organs, the musculoskeletal and arterio-venous system and superficial soft tissues, prescribed by specialists of various branches as well as in Gynecology and Urology in endocavitary method.
Termini Outpatient Clinics are equipped with state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary Siemens Digital Echotomographs, thus capable of performing all types of ultrasound examinations.
All ultrasound machines are equipped with dedicated multi-frequency probes for each anatomical district and examination.
Special emphasis on ultra-high-definition equipment dedicated to Gynecology and Cardiology that enables 3D and 4D methods in OB/GYN and Cardiac Echocolordoppler ultrasounds.
All ultrasound scans are performed by Medical Specialists and the report is given to the patient immediately after the examination.
For the patient to undergo an ultrasound is very simple. First, it is sufficient to assume a comfortable position, which is indicated by the doctor, usually sitting or supine. At this point, the specialist proceeds to apply a conducting gel to the patient’s epidermis at the organ to be examined over which he proceeds to slide a probe. The ultrasound instrument, by emitting and recording ultrasound, generates the image of the internal organ. In terms of timing, the examination takes about 10 to 20 minutes in which the patient is asked to remain as still as possible to obtain clear and sharp images. Once the examination is completed, the patient can return to resume regular activities without any contraindications.
Preparing for ultrasound involves a series of attentions on the part of the patient, which should be expected on the day before the examination.
The directions to be followed are important in order to improve the diagnostic accuracy of the procedure.
