Ciriolo Maria Rosa

Full Professor of Biochemistry, Department of Biology, University of Rome “Tor Vergata.”
Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Cellular and Molecular Biology, University of Rome “Tor Vergata”
Scientific head of the section of “Biochemistry of Aging” IRCCS San Raffaele, Rome.

Research

Ciriolo’s main research concerns oxygen free radicals (ROS) and nitrogen free radicals (RNS) and redox signaling and their involvement in the pathophysiology of inflammatory diseases, metabolic disorders, and neurological defects. In this context, various signaling mechanisms such as impaired mitochondria function, cell cycle arrest, DNA damage response, inflammation, protein regulation, and lipid peroxidation along with various redox signaling pathways such as apoptosis and autophagy have been characterized. Author of more than 220 papers published in “peer-reviewed” scientific journals; 20 book chapters and 120 abstracts at National and International Congresses. (H-index 66, Total Citations >21000, source Scopus).
