He graduated in Pharmacy from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and specialized in Applied Pharmacology also at the same University. For more than 10 years he served at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, coordinating large multicenter studies in the fields of infectious diseases (HIV/AIDS) and oncology. From 2001 to 2014 he was Director of Research and Clinical Trials at the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA), also coordinating the creation of the National Observatory of Clinical Trials of Medicines (OsSC). In this position, he coordinated the development of the main national legislation in the field of clinical research and participated in the development of the EU regulatory framework (Directive 2001/20/EC; EU Regulation 536/2014) Pastmember of the Phase I Commission (at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità) and Anti-Doping Commission (Ministry of Health). Italian representative to the EMA (European Medicines Agency. EfficacyWorking Party and PharmacogenomicWorking party) and the European Union (for the development of EU legislation related to clinical research). Books, scientific publications and international awards enrich his professional career.
