The electrophysiology laboratory has all the ‘equipment necessary to conduct voltage-clamp recordings in Xenopus oocytes. The setup consists of two micromanipulators (Leica Microsystems), a Warner Instruments RC-1Z recording chamber and a modular stereomicroscope (Leica MS5), and acquires via GeneClamp 500B amplifier associated with a Digidata 1322A (Axon Instruments), which allow digitization of the recorded signal. The aforementioned instrumentation also allows for perfusions of oocytes, thanks to the Warner VC-8 system, in order to test the effect of different modulators on neurotransmitter receptors. Finally, the laboratory has an antivibratility system (Kinetic system 9100) and a Faraday cage to minimize electrical noise while conducting experiments.

Research Interests

The Neurophysiology laboratory is mainly concerned with the following topics:
  • Physiology of neurodevelopment
  • Synaptic transmission in normal and pathological muscle
