The social impact of the Parkinson’s disease, which is estimated to affect 1 percent of the population over the age of 65, and with increasing relevance in the lower age groups (30-60), leads to continued research both in increasing the pathophysiological knowledge of the disease and in refining the therapeutic, pharmacological and rehabilitative approach, with a view to a improvement of the quality of life Of these patients.

Gli obiettivi

The Center for Parkinson’s Disease Care and Diagnosis cares for patients with Parkinson’s disease and parkinsonisms. Multidisciplinary care and specific clinical expertise is provided in order to carry out proper management of the disease especially in its more advanced stages, when conventional drug therapy can no longer guarantee an acceptable quality of life.
The Center is part of the Parkinson’s network of San Raffaele facilities and is in direct connection with other specialized national and international centers with which research protocols in rehabilitation are carried out. He is also able to select and manage complicated stage patients who need unconventional therapies (subcutaneous infusion therapies, intradigiunals).

Gli interessi dell’Area

Particularly active is translational research, which finds one of its fundamental pillars in drug trials. Research in the clinical setting aims to identify and verify the impairment of other organs and apparatuses in the course of disease and to implement guidelines through clinical trials aimed at validating rehabilitation protocols, agreed upon with scientific societies.

The research group carries out projects related to the diagnostic, clinico-pharmacological, psychological and rehabilitation areas in both Parkinson’s disease and atypical parkinsonisms.

Clinical Research
Our Center is involved in the most relevant international clinical trials of new drugs for Parkinson’s Disease and Parkinsonisms. He also conducts numerous research projects and epidemiological/observational studies aimed at understanding specific aspects of the Disease. Our activities provide opportunities for patients to be involved in trials and to actively participate in research on these diseases.
