The facility is a certified ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology, with the title “Designated Center of Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care.”
L’Hospice – Center for Palliative Careof the St. Raphael of Cassino Is a health service, Accredited with the National Health System, which is part of the palliative care network with the aim of Taking care of the patient in the progressive stage of the disease. The center has 15 beds for the‘residential care and is able to provide home care to 60 patients.
In addition, the Department, by virtue of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the University of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’ is a training site for residents belonging to the university’s School of Specialization in Palliative Medicine and Palliative Care.
PALLIATIVE CARE
Palliative care aims to alleviate suffering, protect the sick person from the distress caused by the disease by providing relief of pain and other symptoms and integrating the psychological, social and spiritual aspects of care.
They also constitute a valuable support system to help the family during the illness of the relative, even at home. Hospice care ensures the availability of 24-hour specialized care in a welcoming and familiar environment, as close to home as possible. Friends and relatives can care for their relatives at any time of the day-there are no hours or limitations on visiting hours.
The different professionals who make up the hospice team all have specific training, and the department’s incorporation into a hospital setting ensures the availability of outpatient clinics, diagnostic imaging services and laboratory testing.
Great attention is paid to the organization of spaces, and the total elimination of architectural barriers ensures access in every area of the Center by people with different degrees of ability.
In the case of home patients, the team takes care of everything from organizing health services to requesting auxiliary aids, such as medical beds or oxygen cylinders.
