Scientific Director of IRCCS San Raffaele:
Prof. Massimo Fini

The Scientific Directorate coordinates research activities in cooperation with the Scientific and Technical Committee. Promotes network collaboration with other IRCCS, cultural exchange and scientific collaborations with other research institutions nationally and internationally, new projects, scientific products, multicenter protocols, research agreements; oversees computerized management of scientific activity, reporting and monitoring, library and library services.

Research activity is organized into research areas, which are closely related to care activities and expressed in 3 research lines agreed with the Ministry of Health.

Each Area is headed by a manager who is assisted by researchers, some of whom are also clinic staff, and makes use of the research center’s laboratories, which, through specific skills and cross-cutting technologies, ensure the translational aspect of research.

Scientific technical committee

Chairman of the Scientific Technical Committee of IRCCS San Raffaele:
Prof. Enrico Garaci

The Scientific Technical Committee has supporting functions with respect to biomedical research activities, both basic and clinical, pertaining to the activities of the IRCCS.

The members of the Scientific Technical Committee are appointed by the Administrative Body for a three-year term, upon the proposal of the President, from among experts in the institutional research areas, and the Scientific Director participates in it by right, informing the members with respect to the Institute’s activities.

The Committee formulates opinions and proposals on matters referred to it by the President and/or the Scientific Director.
The Scientific Technical Committee expresses its opinion on the annual budget and balance sheet pertaining to research activities, documents prepared by the Scientific Director. Both documents are submitted by the Scientific Technical Committee to the Administrative Body for formal approval.

EC Local Office for CET Lazio Area 5

In accordance with Article 3(2) of the Ministerial Decree of January 26, 2023, “Identification of Forty Territorial Ethics Committees,” as of June 6, 2023, the Ethics Committee (EC) of IRCCS San Raffaele, established under the Ministerial Decree of February 8, 2013, is considered to have lapsed.

As of June 7, 2023, the new CET Lazio AREA5 is active, based at Istituti Fisioterapici Ospedalieri, Via Elio Chianesi, 53 00144 Rome.

 

The references for the Lazio Area 5 ethics committee are as follows:

Currently, a local CE office operates in the IRCCS San Raffaele facility. (as defined by Lazio Region’s Determination No. G01659 of February 10, 2023) with the role of facilitating and accommodating research proposals, in any capacity, from IRCCS San Raffaele’s afferent personnel and supporting all those operations that remain outside the scopes defined for CETs by the Decrees of January 26, 2023, January 27, 2023 and January 30, 2023.

Office of the Secretary

The Secretariat Office is established in the Scientific Directorate of IRCCS San Raffaele and coordinates with the President and the heads of the relevant departments in the procedures for setting up, authorizing and carrying out trials.

The Secretariat Office of the CE operates in close collaboration with the Secretariat Office of the Central Ethics Committee (CEC) IRCCS Lazio Region, identified by Lazio Regional Decree no. 146 of 12/06/2013 in the IRCCS IFO – G. B. Bietti Foundation section.

The Office of the Secretary establishes the Register of Clinical Trials required by current regulations.

The Office of the Secretary acquires laws, ministerial provisions, regulations and guidelines by informing the CE components and making them available to them for reference.

The Secretarial Office carries out the following activities:

– makes publicly available the information needed to prepare projects for submission to the EC;
– records requests and delivered documentation with a protocol system;
– verifies the completeness and correctness from a formal and regulatory point of view of the documentation and requests any changes and/or additions to it so that the applicable regulatory requirements are met;
– forwards formal notice of the meeting at least 10 days before the meeting and makes the documents included in the agenda available to the members via the website (Ethics Committee Portal);
– Makes consultation of trial records available to supervisory bodies and regulatory authorities upon request.
Minutes of EC meetings are taken by the Secretary of the Ethics Committee.
